When is it?

October 11, 2017  – one day before the official start of the NASPAA Annual Conference. Sign up for the free Institute and/or Site Visitor Training with your NASPAA Conference registration.

Where is it?

The 2017 NASPAA Annual Conference is in Washington, DC! Both the Accreditation Institute and full conference will be located at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill.

Who should attend?

Anyone interested in learning more about NASPAA Accreditation is encouraged to attend. Programs seeking (re)accreditation in the short-term – programs in the 2018-19 and 2019-20 cohorts – are especially encouraged to register for the Institute. It is also an excellent opportunity for programs interested in seeking accreditation to prepare for both the eligibility application and/or self-study report. Program heads and faculty new to currently accredited programs are also welcome to join colleagues to learn about the expectations of accredited programs!

The day is designed to provide the tools to be successful in mission-driven, outcomes-oriented, evidence-based accreditation-earning program management. Site Visitor Training also occurs throughout the day.

What will I learn?

Based around an interactive, flipped classroom, the 2017 Institute will use a combination of video modules and experiential and skills-based learning to touch on each of the 7 NASPAA Accreditation Standards, including maintaining your mission and sustainable assessment, as well as program best practices. The philosophy of the training is focused around the elements of managing a program effectively: mission-driven, outcomes-oriented, evidence-based. 

Anyone interested can also train to become a NASPAA Site Visitor! Site Visitor Training sessions are specifically denoted on the day-of schedule. COPRA encourages programs who are recently accredited (and not in immediate upcoming cohorts) to train as a site visitor!

What is the schedule?

The Accreditation Institute runs all day, from 8:00am to 4:00pm. 6 sessions – some concurrent – run about one hour long, focusing on mission-driven assessment and strategic program management. For the exact schedule, refer here!

Do I have to prepare?

Yes! The Institute is based upon a flipped classroom. A series of videos, available here, give participants the opportunity learn the fundamentals of the NASPAA Standards ahead of the Institute. The Facilitators will also solicit questions ahead of the Institute, to give participants the chance to shape content. Then, on October 11, the Institute trainers will hit the ground running, expecting every participant to have watched and reviewed the video modules before joining your colleagues in Washington, DC. By covering the details of the NASPAA Standards ahead of time, the Institute can focus on hands-on learning, applying the concepts and tools needed to prepare a comprehensive Self-Study Report.


Does my program qualify for Speed Consulting?

Speed Consulting is available each year to accredited programs currently in their self-study year. For 2017, those programs seeking reaccreditation in the 2018-19 cohort will be offered a one-on-one session with an accreditation expert during the Conference. These one-hour sessions are an excellent opportunity to consult with former and current COPRA members and site visitors and discuss your specific questions and concerns.

If your program is seeking initial accreditation, you instead have the option to request an eligibility counselor from NASPAA – someone outside of the evaluative process to assist with questions that arise during the self-study year. Counseling opportunities are considered to be much more in-depth than speed consulting, so please take advantage and contact NASPAA staff today!
